Why are New Yorkers going wild for this Swedish shoe?
A new sneaker brand out of Scandinavia has the Big Apple raving – here’s why.
Since its launch in 2014, Axel Arigato, the ultra-cool Swedish-meets-Japanese fusion sneaker label, has penetrated an already saturated NYC sneaker market with a loud bang.
The reasons are simple. The shoe, born in Sweden and inspired by Japan, is everything New York already is – and everything it wants to be.
Boasting a minimalist aesthetic, Axel Arigato has created an understated sneaker that speaks volumes. That kind of quiet loudness is exactly what every young, modern New Yorker seeks out.
“It’s the aesthetic, how it looks and feels,” says young media professional Asia Stone, who loves her white leather Crossed Laced Arigatos.
“It’s the perfect shoe. I can wear it to work, to go shopping, out for drinks on Fridays. I love them.”
The simple, streamlined Axel Arigato aesthetic is completing the look for scores of young, hip New Yorkers like Asia, who are having the shoe shipped from Europe at no cost, or picking up their pair at New York city’s select salespoints.
The shoe’s additional and highly attractive selling point? The price-tag. These sneakers are meticulously produced in line with only the highest fashion standards and materials- yet they come at a fraction of the price.
“We’ve always loved sneakers and we looked at other brands that were doing footwear with quality materials and a gum sole but they were always so expensive so we thought we’d see what we could do,” explains co-founder Max Svärdh.
So they went straight for premium, no corners cut: Italian leathers, handmade in Portugal, making every pair a sleek piece of art wearers feel rather godly in. The the innovative label has also ditched traditional, outdated collections and seasons norm – releasing a new pair every week on Tuesdays instead, to keep up with today’s digital, fast-paced world.
And it’s working. Since its original web launch, the brand has opened a high-demand flagship store in London, where the likes of Alicia Vikander have walked in for their treat. World-renowned New York fashion authority Eva Chen has also been spotted in their shoes.
The Swedish Eagle, well-known for its focus on efficiency, has landed in New York. Top fashion and top quality is always a good choice, and New Yorkers are readily hopping on the bandwagon. After all, the fabulous ride starts at just US$195 for an experience that lasts a lifetime.
